Who does all this?

Jonas and Rayce come up with the stories together, and Jonas does the art. Hosting's handled by Solfire.com, run by the awesome godlike Ryan DeWalt, who is the unrivaled wizard of PHP and gets mad props.

How'd this all start?
Jonas created Dume around late 1998, and the otter originally served as a pseudo-mascot for an annual BBQ event in Southern California. Rand originally was more of a forest creature type, and had his own strip ('Rand the Righteous Raccoon'), which was done on notebook paper and long since lost. (Which is for the best, really. Trust us.) The two characters made good foils to each other, so Jonas came up with the idea of having them be roommates. Rayce was a big fan of Dume from the start, so Jonas & Rayce teamed up to do the actual strip, and the rest is history.

Where do you get your ideas?
Oh, all of this stuff happens to us in real life, exactly as depicted. Honest. No, really!

Can I submit fanart?
Sure! We'll stick it up in a gallery section, as long as it's clean (i.e. PG-13 or lower). Just let us know what name you want the art credited to.

Can I do a guest strip?
Maybe, eventually! We'll announce an open call for guest strips when we need 'em. Watch the newsbox on the main page for details.

Can you do a guest strip for my title?
Possibly. E-mail us and ask.

How do you pronounce Dume's name?
The same way you'd pronounce 'doom.'

Where does Dume's name come from?
Dume's name comes from Point Dume, a popular surfing spot in Malibu, California. And if you're curious: Point Dume, in turn, is named after Father Francisco Dumetz, one of the last Spanish missionaries in California. Now you know! And knowing's half the battle, bizatch.

Is there an RSS feed of the comic?
Not yet, but we're working on it. Watch the newsbox for updates.

Where exactly is Southpaw supposed to be?
Somewhere on the Southern California coast, in the vicinity of a large urban sprawl that suspiciously resembles Los Angeles. Specifically, Southpaw is one of those little surfing nooks tucked away in the foothills and canyons just out of the city. It's the kind of town that makes most of its money off of tourism and health spas, and a good chunk of the local populace are celebrities.

Can I repost the strips or gallery art elsewhere?
As long as you credit us, yes, and don't alter it in any way. Just don't steal our stuff. Seriously. We'll send Guido over to fatten your lip. Or something.

What kind of Dume merchandise is available?
Nothing yet, but we've got stuff in the works. Keep an eye on the newsbox.

Will there ever be a printed Dume collection?
If it happens, we'll let you guys know.

What media do you use to do the comics?
It starts with just regular pencils and Pigma Microns for inks. Most of the work happens in Adobe Illustrator, where Jonas traces the inks, polishes lines, and colors everything.

Do you guys ever do conventions/gatherings?
Now and then, yeah. Watch the newsbox for details.

What does all the surfer lingo Dume uses mean?
We highly recommend the Riptionary as a guide to surfer slang.

Are either of you actually from Southern California?
Neither of us are native, no. But we both spent a good number of years there, getting to know the vibe, and we're pretty familiar with it.

Do either of you actually surf?
Rayce is pretty good at surfing. Jonas tried it once or twice, and managed to get waterlogged in places he didn't think was possible (plus he's afraid of jellyfish), so that's that.
